Welcome to the website of Genius Loci! Founded by students of the study Landscape Architecture & Spatial Planning in 1990 in Wageningen, we are run by and for the students of our study. Our activities include social drinks, parties, to more career-related activities like lunch lectures, excursions and the yearly Career Event!

As part of the Genius Loci Career Day on Tuesday, May 19th 💚, we’re excited to open sign-ups for the workshops held at Forum B0107 (lunch is included)
During the day, two companies will host interactive sessions, giving you the opportunity to dive deeper into real projects and approaches from the work field. Spots are limited, so make sure to register in time.
🕚 Workshop Program:
11:30 – 12:30 | PosadMaxwan
Explore how soil and nature-based strategies can shape healthy and resilient cities. This workshop highlights two projects: a soil-focused research approach and a future vision for Almere, centered on landscape-driven urban development.
12:45 – 13:45 | Ruimtevolk
Get to know Ruimtevolk’s interdisciplinary approach to spatial challenges, from landscape and liveability to urbanism and housing. The session includes an interactive case, where you’ll contribute to a real project where planning and design come together.

Our history
Our study association was founded on the 31st of May, 1990, by a group of students of the study association of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Design at Wageningen University. We were named after the famous concept of 'Genius Loci', which means the 'spirit of the place'. It is a concept which is used when designing a new landscape, by building upon the distinctive atmosphere which is, and was, present in the project area.
The study
Genius Loci is the study association of both the bachelor Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning (BLP) and the master Landscape Architecture and Planning (MLP). By learning about various theoretical courses related to the landscape, like ecology, geology, soil and water, you can justify your later studio courses where you work on your own project. Meet the board:
President
Pieter de Leede
The President is the face of the board and the association. They also make sure board meetings are conducted in an orderly fashion, board members know what to do and that the board functions as it should.
Secretary
Leonie Driessens
The Secretary does the administrative tasks required for the board to function. This includes taking minutes, sending and organizing e-mails and updating the board's calendar. After half a year, the secretary will become the chair.
Treasurer
Cas Kuijers
The Treasurer is concerned with all financial business of the association. They keep track of all incomes and expenses. From paying for drinks to making the yearly budget, the treasurer is involved.
Commissioner of Education
Brecht van de Poll
The Commissioner of Education keeps tabs with both students and the education team and is also the chair of our education committee. They make sure that our study programme is improved based on student feedback.
Commissioner of Internal Affairs
Ferron Bankert
The Commissioner of Internal Affairs is the link between the members of the association and the board. They make sure committees are filled and functioning and keep all members updated about activities and more.
Commissioner of External Affairs
Thijmen Vinkenvleugel
The Commissioner of External Affairs keeps in touch with interesting companies. They are the link between the study and our professional working field. Tasks include speaking with current and potential new sponsors and helping organize the yearly NGPS.
